Argentora’s laws uphold the right to seek resolution via challenge, mediation, or litigation, with challenges held outside city limits. Merchant and Initiate Law are respected. House, Camp, Clan, and Capture Rights are recognized, with stipulations on recovering escaped property. Free women must maintain modesty, with state provisions for those arriving immodestly. Theft and property damage are punishable, excluding outlaws. Rape is severely punished unless the woman is enslaved before trial. Submission can lead to enslavement under Merchant Law. Slaves can be freed with reapplication for settlement and caste membership.

Resolution

We recognize the right of free people to seek redress or resolution via challenge, mediation or litigation. Challenges are required to take place outside city limits. In the absence of a magistrate, the Administrator or Ubar can hear your litigation and rule.

Merchant Law

Argentora has agreed to abide by all Merchant Law and Initiate Law.

Personal Rights

Argentora recognises the House, Camp, and Clan Rights, as these are necessary freedoms and institutions for Goreans.

Capture Rights

Argentora respects the rights of a man over a captive slave, and the right of a man to recover their property within a reasonable time. Slaves that escape their captor after the captive period will be considered runaways. Free women may escape their captor at any time and are only considered slaves if they are rendered such through Merchant Law.

Men who do not make any action to recover their property within reasonable time surrender their rights to that property.

Argentoran property that is sequestered within Argentora is to be returned to their owner. Argentoran capture of Argentoran free persons is not recognized except as per the execution of due legal process.

Protection Rights

A man who saves the life of a defenseless free woman outside Argentora's walls will have his capture rights recognized. A free woman who is not defenseless will not be considered as their life having been saved.

Modesty

It is the privilege and obligation of free women to maintain their modesty. Any person who infringes on a free woman's right to traditional modesty, including themselves, are subject to fines as a first offense. Modesty rules are adjusted for Contract Women to comport with their contract.

We recognize that some women will arrive due to shipwreck or other misfortune. Women that arrive in New Tabor without modesty through misadventure will be provided for by the state so that they may be compliant. There is also a leniency towards honored guests that they may have the opportunity to change to modest attire as doing so on the road is problematic. Fines will not be levied to women who react to immodesty by seeking modesty.

Theft or Property Damage

Theft of goods or services, or damage to property is against the law. We recognize a citizen's right to seek redress to a financial factor of two for any and all property damage or theft of services. Theft ONLY applies to stealing from another citizen, and does not apply to outlaws or those of another Home Stone.

Rape

Sexual use of a free woman without her permission is a severe crime subject to punishment, to be decided by the Magistrate. If the woman is enslaved before the trial, however, there is no crime. Sexual use of a slave without their Master's permission is a minor transgression. A small coin can be paid if the Master wishes to press the issue. If the Master wishes to take this as a matter of honor, that is their prerogative and outside the purview of the civic laws.

Submission

The act of submission by a free woman, regardless if accepted, is grounds for enslavement as per Merchant Law. Limited enslavement by an act of submission has no legal grounds. We recognize that a Pani contract woman is legally free, and actions done in the execution of their legal contract will be considered contractual duties. Free women who engage in conduct indicating suitability for the collar may be brought before the court for litigation and possible enslavement, as per the Modesty laws.

Manumission

We allow for the freeing of slaves. A notice of manumission must be made, and the freed person must re-apply for membership to both their Settlement and caste, as neither are automatically assumed. There may be fees for manumission.

Slave Law

We recognize the right of free persons to punish slaves as long as such punishment does not permanently damage the property, in which case, the property owner has the right to seek redress. Redress must be reasonably commensurate with the damage done.

Couching Laws

Any free woman who couches with, or prepares to couch with, someone else's male slave, becomes herself a slave, and the property of the male slave's master.
