Crafting & Harvesting
From Barbarians of Gor
Our main goal for season three is to strongly encourage players to role-play within a centralized location. To that end, we are offering one main role-play hub with three cultural districts. Additionally, we have centralized the crafting into the main hub and players will need to go into town to craft.
Overview
One of our big takeaways from last season and the profession system we tried to implement was the failure to have that system generate the sort of RP and "on screen" time with each other we had hoped for. Instead we saw clan bulking and profession swapping to ensure clans and groups had all the crafting stations they could need and not have any reason to use the hubs. Not our goal and not conducive to any real RP interactions outside of those small clan groups. So this season, we are taking a different approach to not only consolidating the player base into one central hub, we are also consolidating the crafting this time around.
- Harvest Rates have been increased to base game.
- Crafting Times have been reduced to base game.
- Crafting Costs have been reduced to base game.
- Thrall and Pet times are set over that of base game.
- Item Spoil Rate has been set to the lowest possible setting.
The town of Vargor near Telith's Island has all of the base game and Shani's crafting benches. There are more then enough for everyone to use.
However, some crafting stations can only be used by the clan you are in. These include the wheels of pain, the fashionist bench, and the dismantling bench. These, along with a few others, stables, camp fires, and clan benches are available for you to craft or purchase from the vendor in the OOC area.
Additionally, those resource producing stations like the Emberlight pens and all planters, have been removed to encourage players to gather their resources and avoid stock piling.
Crafting Stations
The following crafting stations are available to players for use in their homes:
- All Wheel of Pain/Thrall Converting stations are craftable by players except for the Shani's Rope which is on a vendor in the OOC Area. We offer a selection of thrall crafting stations that are more compact then the base game ones. Please look on the construction hammer.
- Pet and mount conversion stations from Animal and Taming Places. (Shani's Pet Bowl is for sale on the OOC vendor but at the time of this document was not working due to the update.) The animal and taming places items are available on the construction hammer.
- Fashionist Bench and Fashionist armor stands only work for the clan they are placed in, so these are also available to players on the construction hammer.
- Dismantling bench is available to players.
- The campfire, bonfire, and are creditable for use by players.
Living off the Land
We recognize that there will always be those players who want to go off and do their own thing. Because we have one centralized hub with the only crafting tables, players who want to do this will have to learn to live off the land.
Unlike season one and season two the settings for season three are significantly easier. Not only can you get to level 60 right away, you have basic items for purchase in the 00C area, as well as free build kits.
This leaves very little that needs to be crafted that can’t be acquired from hunting.
You can cook and craft tools. And while the tools are stone tools, they will be serviceable in season three with the increased harvest rates, reduced crafting costs, and free build kits.
NPC animals, monsters and humanoids drop on death more than just meat and skin - armor, weapons, consumables, and more can be gathered off their bodies and broken down in a dismantling bench - which is one of the “crafting stations” you can have.
As are the wheel of pains and stables for the breaking of thralls, and raising of mounts and pets.
That leaves only a few things that you need to trade with the town for - mostly placeable deco items and repair kits.
Weapons and armor, including everything on your toolbar, will no longer drop on death. So the need to continually replace these items has been eliminated.
However, as groups living off the land, you have access to high-end hides, furs, meat, ichor, brimstone, gold, etc as well as legendary weapons. This gives you valuable game resources to bring into your trade RP.
