Fiction
The sudden need to flee the plague-stricken isle of New Sardar offered a sense of purpose to those who dedicated their lives to riding Thassa, offering the perfect chance for captains who had been stranded on land for too long to put their shipbuilding knowledge to the test. The moment of triumph was at hand, blood and pride burning hot as several worthy vessels set sail toward a new hope. Captain Edmond Locke was one such man, the dedication and hope of returning to his beloved Home Stone drove him to build a ship worthy of reaching the canals of Kar. Though the reforged Emerald Star sailed strong and true, the curse of the Last End made the long-hoped-for return an impossibility.
Driven to the shores of a new land, Captain Locke was forced to come to terms with the fact that they may never make it home. It was with a heavy heart that he knew a new settlement of his beloved Home Stone must be forged in its spirit, unwilling to give up on his dreams of returning to Kar as he more readily accepted the truth of the difficulty such an endeavor presented.
So with the help of his newfound allies within the ranks of the Black Caste, a new settlement was raised within the waters of Blackgant Bay. The settlement proclaiming the waters to now be those of Barataria Bay, reverently referred to as Shipwreck Cove by the captains and residents alike. The new “Karian territory” was raised with much respect to the Karian traditions and styling, where there was nearly always an exception to every rule, the settlement quickly grew a reputation appealing to those who may walk outside of the typical norms of Gorean life.
Civic Law and Governance
Will your settlement be following the civic law of the area? Yes, we are also south of the fairgrounds and will be participating in the caste structure as well.
Will you be adding additional laws for your settlement? Yes, there will be additional laws set for the settlement. Those will be announced as they are fully evolved. The general intention of the settlement law is to be evocative of the laws of Port Kar.
Have you figured out how you are going to “wall off” your settlement without being on/over Merchant Road? Yes, I have a loose plan on how I will be walling off the settlement around the bay area. I just have to get into the game and start setting things in place to ensure said plan will work. Though, we will not block the Merchant Road, as we want to draw interest to the settlement from the road ICly.
Form of Government
What will your form of government be? A Council of Captains operating beneath a High/Lord Captain.
Role of Caste
Will caste be part of your settlement role-play? Castes will be a part of the settlement role-play in a manner generally similar to Port Kar.
Leadership Selection
How will leadership be chosen? Locke will establish himself as the leader of the settlement at the time of its establishment. Challenges to his role as leader will be done through a vote by the Council of Captains.
Handling Slaves
How will you handle slaves? There will be multiple versions of slaves around the settlement.
- Privately owned collars. These slaves will be privately owned and primarily serve the will of their owner. - Settlement Slaves, who will be owned by Locke but these slaves will not be under his direct care. They will work various jobs within the port settlement and most will be available for purchase ICly. The intention is for this to be where new player slaves would end up and have the opportunity to be a part of the community and interact with potential owners before deciding on who to tie their character to more directly. I intend to have multiple avenues/opportunities for the girls to work ICly, things like a bath house, a tavern of some sort, stable girls, general duties around the settlement at large, etc.
New Player Building Rules
What will your new player building rules be? There will be homes available for players to claim as their private residence, with these mostly being built by myself or Echo. Though, if new players wish to build their own home then guidelines will be provided as to how many building pieces they can use and they will be expected to build something that stylistically matches the rest of the settlement. It is not my intention at this time to provide foundations for players to build on.
Can they build homes where they wish? Homes may or may not be decorated by myself or Echo are the time they are claimed. If they are not, a guideline will be provided as to how many placeables are available to them.
Do they have to match a style? Yes, they will need to stylistically match the rest of the settlement.
Will you be providing homes built by a specific player? Yes, homes will be provided by myself or Echo.
Will you be providing foundations players can only build on? It is not my intention at this time to provide foundations for players to build on.
