From Barbarians of Gor

Fiction

Day 1: Those was visiting the volcano report increased activity. Numerous openings vent steam into the air. There is an increase in lava flow and an occasional fall of rocks off the mountain side.

Day 4: Rumors travel from the eastern coast that an actual Gorean built ship has been sighted! No such vessel in sailable condition has been seen in many years in New Sardar. What does this mean, are we to be rescued? Who sails this ship?

Day 6: Captain Anbar al Amhara, the Administrator of a place known as Turan Cove on the island of World's End arrived to speak to those gathered at the forum at the Sardar Fair. It was quickly revealed that there is a strong possiblity that the volcano is likely to erupt. Captain Anbar is willing and able to transport approximately one hundred people from New Sardar to World's End.

He explained that the land had three central towns where Gorean culture was thriving, and that those of New Sardar would be given an opportunity to ally with one of the cities or perhaps take up citizenship. No free Gorean, nor ally or slave will be turned way, even outlaws are welcome to travel to World's End.

Day 12: Ships can be seen sailing to the eastern coast of New Sardar

A significant fleet of small Gorean ships being to weigh anchor just off the coast of New Sardar. They bear three different flags and the captains speak of their homes.

Port Argentum

Port Argentum is seeking artisans, scribes, physicians, and builders in addition to warriors, fighting slaves, city slaves, and slavers. They speak of a small city of white marble, tall cylinders, a central arena, an expansive Turian bath houses, Pani tea house and paga tavern. The captains of these ships are well dressed and well spoken, they will clearly search out those with familiar accents of Ar and central Gor. One of their number will be seen deep in conversation with @Gyr and @Kyra. Caste work is offered to any looking to make Port Argentum their home.

Torvald's Landing

The rough and ready reavers of the northern long ships break open casks of mead and welcome refugee's with hearty slaps and tall tales of great adventure. They speak of a northern home along a great forest of giant evergreen trees. They brag of their long hall and the strength of their High Jarl, Vigbjord Odinkarsson. They are seeking physicians, bond maids, hunters, ship builders, blacksmiths and fertile free women in addition to warriors and slavers. A tall man of pale hair can be seen speaking with Jake of Skoldur, Hrolf of Serpent's Keep and Baene of Ironhall. ( @Jake @Bowen of the Lore @Baene )

The seamen of Torvald's Landing seem to be a broad mix of Alar, Red Hunters, Red Savages, Wagon People and even some Tahari nomads.

Turan Cove

The ships of Turan Cove are filled with men and women of all manner of origin. Port Karian's stand shoulder to shoulder with rough spoken natives and outlaws. They speak of a blended city where those of the main land and World's End co-exist mostly peacefully with each other. They brag of their taverns and brothels, free trade port and relaxed traditions. They are seeking men who desire independent living and a chance to earn coin. Various companies of mercenaries, merchants, and freebooters wend their way through the refugees making a point of speaking to other natives of New Sardar, and any other who appear to be on the fringe of society, including Panther Girls. It is said that both Gorean and Hyborian Common are spoken in Turan Cove.

Announcement

I don't love wipes and we as a team are committed to avoiding them as long as possible. However, we want sailable ships and have maintained the assertion that when they become available we will implement them, and change maps ... so as to have sailable water.

That time has come.

The sailable ship mod is available and great fun, we feel it will add to the role-play. Consequently we will be changing to the Siptah Map which is an island with a lot of sailable water. Map changes come with server resets.

You will need to purchase the Siptah DLC if you do not already have it. It's available on CD Keys for $10. If you are in financial difficulty, the community has offered to help players with the purchase, please open a ticket.

What does a Server Wipe/Reset Mean It means at all characters must be recreated. However, additional steps can be made to restore some portion of your progress. Details are forth coming, but in summary:

You will be able to recover a selection of the following items: your level to 60, build materials, weapons and armor, t4 thralls, high end pets, gold and so forth. Not everything will be available to everyone, but we do have a thread below where you can request items be made available. We will pick a selection and have it available for purchase on restart.

Also, we will be continuing with IQOL so your character appearance can be transferred over as well.

Additional Goals for Season Two

Our biggest challenges right now is getting players on screen as soon as possible and maintaining storylines even when individual clans grow and shrink.

We are working out details, but we will be implementing factions (hubs/Home Stones) for players to join and work together at. These factions will have central crafting areas useable by everyone allied to the hub. This is intended to increase player interaction both immediately and long term.

(While one of the joys of Conan is to go out and build your own base and do your own thing -- it is not driving enough consistent role-play to keep players engaged -- this must be changed. We don't know if our solution will work - cats and players are herding challenges - but we are going to try until we fine the right answer.)

What's Next Role-play events are being scheduled to introduce the storyline that will take us from New Sardar to the island known as World's End. Everyone is invited to participate. More details of the fiction will be released after each event.

Our time frame is in the next few weeks. We will update with more definite times as we get closer to being ready.

Additionally, we are going to release both the ship mod and the new clothing mod to the current server so that you can all get a preview of the goodies to come.

Other Changes We made a promise to re-look at the suite of Tot's mods, and we have given it serious consideration. Unfortunately, it does not meet our needs without a lot of time-consuming work arounds. And honestly, we would rather come and play then spend a month or more trying to recreate what we already have. So we will not be changing to Tots.

Professions

Overview

Our profession system allows players to learn all feats without restriction. However, the recipes to make the crafting stations themselves has been restricted. Example: You can make armor and weapons if you take that knowledge, but you can not make a blacksmith station and you can only buy a blacksmith station if you are the profession of blacksmith/armorer. Each of the three hubs have all of the crafting stations available for use by anyone. These crafting stations are limited to T3 thralls – T4 thralls will need to be placed on player benches. Players can only have 2 crafting stations per person - this includes fish traps, Emberlight animal pens, beehives, and planters.

In this way we feel that we can encourage player trade and crafting without penalizing players who are on during low population periods as they can use the crafting stations at the hub – further driving players on screen with each other to role-play.

There are some notable exceptions to this:

  • Player’s can purchase crafting benches from other players, but the per person bench count still applies.
  • The campfire, single thrall wheel of pain, deconstruction bench and fashionist bench are exceptions to the profession restriction and the crafting bench cap. Everyone can make these items and every clan can have one of each in addition to the 2 per person limit.
  • Competitive events will be ran to procure T4 thralls for the hubs.
Design

Designing a profession system that ONLY restricts the crafting stations AND is easy to implement took some creative grouping of trades. We recognize that these groupings are not inherently Gorean – however Gor has far to many different castes to successfully implement them all. Consequently, the simplest answer was to group the professions by the Shani’s workbenches. This is why the saddle feats are with the metal worker not the leather worker, because Shani’s mod puts those items in the Legendary Blacksmith Hammer not the Bear Burut's Ancient Fur and we can’t change that.

Further, some of the decoration benches make items that could be in more then one profession. We opted to do our best to balance out the professions, for example Shani’s lighting has a lot of candles in it. Logically that could be animal tallow or beeswax, but since the tamer/farmer had less stuff we gave it to them.
