  • Turian Camisk: An inverted "T" shaped garment, fastened with a single cord at three points, covering the brand but leaving the back bare.

Other Items

  • Collar: Almost all slaves must wear a collar, the Gorean word for a collar. The most common collar is a light, steel-like band, snugly fitting, that locks in the back. Collars can vary from simple iron bands to enameled bands to ornate, bejeweled collars.
  • Brand: Most slave girls are branded to identify them as slaves. They are most commonly branded on the outside of the left thigh, right thigh, or on her lower left abdomen. The most common brand is the "Kef", the first letter of "Kajira" in cursive script.
  • Leash: The most common leash has a lock snap and closes about a collar or collar ring. There are also specific wrist and ankle leashes. Many leashes are cored with wire so that a girl cannot chew through them.
  • Slave Bracelets: Also known as manacles, these are used to secure wrists and ankles. Manacles commonly have fixed sizes and there are four common sizes. Most manacles though are adjustable for any of the four sizes.
  • Binding Fiber: This is commonly a strong twine made of strips of leather or a fiber-like material created to hold slaves and prisoners. It may be used as a leash or even as a whip.
  • Belly Chain: This length of chain fits around a kajira's waist and cannot be lowered to the ground due to women generally having wide hips. There is also a padlock on the chain behind the girl's back.
  • Body Chain: This item is often considered a type of slave jewelry but can also be used to restrain the girl. It consists of a length of chain, about five feet long, that can be looped around a girl's throat or body.
  • Iron Belt: A Gorean chastity belt, primarily used to protect slave girls from unauthorized slave rape. It consists of a rounded, fitted, curved waistband and a flat, U-shaped strap of iron that fits between a girl's legs.
  • Slave Hood: These items are generally meant to completely cover a person's head. The hoods are commonly heavy, opaque, and can be locked, though there are numerous types.

Work done by Slaves

In the Gor series, slaves are depicted performing a variety of menial and household tasks that free persons prefer to avoid. Female slaves, in particular, are often tasked with scrubbing, sewing, washing, ironing clothes, cleaning, preparing vegetables, scouring pots and pans, and carrying water. They also serve food, pour drinks, clean utensils, and clear debris. Additionally, they are forced to wash clothing on rocks, pick berries, gather wood, and perform other lowly and servile duties. Male slaves and draft animals handle larger, heavier tasks. Slaves are also employed in domestic roles such as running errands, carrying burdens, dusting, and cleaning. The least valuable slaves are often assigned to public kitchens or laundries. High Caste Work

We know that slaves never did the work of Initiates, Warriors or Builders. And while slave work crews are definately used in some construction projects, it should be noted that all Gorean cities, expect Port Kar, were built by free persons, not slaves.

We have one example of a slave in Port Kar working as a scribe for Bosk. However, there are no other examples of a slave working as a scribe. But there are enough casual references to literate slave girls being used to read or write when a scribe can not be found. There is one quote from Fighting Slave of Gor about slaves with professional competency being purchased, but there is no support for them being used in the case of medicine or law. Given the sheer predominance of other quotes establishing the Gorean male's joy of humiliating high caste-born or illiterate slaves, it seems highly unlikely that a Gorean male would make use of more then the meanest skills or only in the rarest situations.

The Gorean free woman, particularly those of high caste, is likely to be literate. Thus, if she is embonded, her master will have acquired a slave who can read and write. Some masters prefer such women; others do not. Many Goreans, incidentally, particularly of the lower castes, and particularly in rural areas, are illiterate. They may, of course, have recourse to scribes, some of whom are itinerant, or traveling merchants, usually peddlers, who, for a modest fee, or in the case of the merchants, or peddlers, sometimes for free, for good will, will read letters for them, write letters, and so on.

Low Caste Work

Slaves often perform tasks along side the low castes, though these tasks are generally unskilled labor. In caste-based cultures like Ar and Ko-ro-ba, slaves work in linen mills, tend fields, and carry water. The exception seems to be when it comes to entertainment where slaves maybe trained to play a musical instrument as well as dance.

However, in non-caste cultures such as Torvaldsland, slaves have opportunities to engage in more skilled tasks like baking and tending animals. This highlights a distinction: caste-based societies typically restrict slaves to unskilled labor, while non-caste cultures allow for a broader range of activities, including basic skilled work.

With the exception of working along side a skilled free person and performing menial or unskilled labor, there are no examples of slaves wholey producing goods for sale or being employed as skilled labor beyond what has been mentioned here.

Unskilled Labor

Gorean slaves, both male and female, were often used in any case that might only require an unskilled labor force such as work crews or factories.
